Internet Speed Test for Switzerland

How fast is your internet connection really? With the zufriedenmit.ch speed test, you can find out in seconds. The measurement runs directly in the browser and captures four key values: download speed, upload speed, ping and jitter. This way you can see immediately whether your provider delivers the promised performance.

How the speed test works

Our speed test measures the actual speed of your internet connection in three steps. First, latency is measured: your browser sends small data packets to a Cloudflare server and measures how long the response takes. This ping value indicates how responsive your connection is, which is especially important for video calls and online gaming. Next comes the download test. Multiple files of different sizes are downloaded simultaneously, from 100 KB to 250 MB. The test starts with small packets and gradually increases the size to determine the maximum bandwidth of your connection. The same procedure is then repeated for upload. The measurement runs through Cloudflare's global network, one of the largest internet infrastructure providers worldwide. The nearest Cloudflare server is automatically selected, providing realistic results. The entire test takes about 30 to 60 seconds and uses approximately 200 to 400 MB of data.

Understanding your speed test results

The most important metric is the download speed in Mbps. It determines how fast web pages load, videos stream and files download. For HD streaming, 10 Mbps is sufficient, while 4K content requires at least 50 Mbps. Those who regularly work from home benefit from 50 Mbps download and 25 Mbps upload. Upload speed is relevant for video calls, cloud backups and sending large files. Many Swiss connections offer asymmetric speeds, where upload is significantly slower than download. Fibre optic connections (FTTH) often offer symmetric speeds. Ping (latency) is measured in milliseconds and indicates how quickly your connection responds to requests. For normal browsing, values below 50 ms are good, for online gaming ideally below 20 ms. Jitter describes the variation in latency. Low jitter means a more stable connection. If your result is significantly below your subscribed speed, there can be various causes: WiFi instead of a cable connection, simultaneous use by other devices, or congestion during peak hours. For the most accurate result, we recommend testing via network cable and without simultaneous downloads.

What to do with poor results?

If your speed test is significantly below the speed promised by the provider, first check your own setup: router location, cable connection and the number of simultaneously active devices play a major role. If the measured speed is consistently far below the contract value, it is worth comparing current offers. In Switzerland, the bandwidths actually delivered vary considerably depending on technology and location. On zufriedenmit.ch, you can compare internet providers transparently by price, speed and customer satisfaction.
